Integrated Professional Training Centre (CIFP)
Professional training, marking the life of the building since the mid-20th century, is still present in the new city of culture by means of the Integrated Professional Training Centre (CIFP), a reference for professional families in the Mechanical Manufactures and Wood and Furniture.
After the refurbishments works carried out, the CIFP occupies a surface area of over 22,000 m2, providing its services to students from the professional families of Administration and Finance, Physical and Sports Activities, Commerce and Marketing, IT, Maintenance and Services for the Production and Chemical Industry, apart from those already mentioned.
Three Professional Training subsystems are taught in the centre: regulated, occupational and continuous.
Over 1,000 pupils study every year in the CIFP, in this way continuing with the excellent Professional Training tradition of La Laboral.
Proffesional Conservatory of Music and Dance
The Gijón Proffesional Conservatory of Music and Dance has been the latest piece added to the educational offer of La Laboral. Next to the College of Dramatic Art, it occupies part of the premises of the hall of residence for students.
The new installations of the Conservatory have over sixty classrooms and 5,600 m2 distributed on the ground floor and five floors, with a capacity to attend between 500 and 800 students at elementary and middle levels.
The new Conservatory also has three concert halls.
College of Dramatic Art
The College of Dramatic Art (ESAD Asturias) occupies 5,000 square metres of the building, next to the Theatre and with an extraordinary architectonic richness, in which a magnificent sample of tiles from Talavera stands out decorating many corridors of La Laboral.
100 pupils study at the ESAD Asturias, actively participating in the cultural and artistic life of the City of Culture.
Laboral Youth Home
The rehabilitation of the Northern Residence of La Laboral, made up by a U-shaped building, has allowed for the construction de 102 public promotion dwellings for rental, with common areas and services such as a room to study or a multipurpose meeting room.
La Laboral Youth Home, commonly known as La Laboral “miniflats”, is managed by the public company Vipasa.
LABoral Art and Industrial Creation Centre
LABoral Art and Industrial Creation Centre is a multidisciplinary space that favours artistic exchange and encourages the relations between society, art, science, technology and creative industries. It is an open and dynamic project, aimed at all kinds of public, with the coexistence of the most modern artistic expressions with educational and training activities.
It was inaugurated on 30th March 2007 and represents a new art centre model whose programming essentially bases itself on the proposal of participation strategies and dialogue at the core intersection between art and industrial creation.
Broadcasting Corporation of the Principality
The old convent of the Clarissa nuns is now the headquarters for the Principality of Asturias Broadcasting Corporation (RTPA), this being the public communications entity of the Principality with television, radio and a news portal.
SERPA
The Principality of Asturias Service Society (SERPA, S.A.), a public company acting as the actual instrumental means and technical service of the Administration for the Principality of Asturias, is located in the building between the Cafeteria and the Tower.
SERPA performs activities for rural development, of agricultural, aquiculture and sea fishing interest, of environmental, tourism, educational, cultural and sports interest.
TK Elevator
TK Elevator has its R&D&I Offices and a Real-size Prototype Laboratory in the City of Culture.
The R&D&I Offices are located in the northern building of the Main Square, in a remodelled space between the Theatre and the area intended for administration of the Principality.
Furthermore, the German multinational has a new building located in the back part of the northern wing, behind the Stage House of the Theatre and the Conservatory, where the Real-scale Prototype Laboratory can be found, a world centre for innovation mainly dedicated to the development of mechanical staircases, moving walkways and jet bridges for aeroplanes.
University of Oviedo
The "Jovellanos" Faculty of Commerce, Tourism and Social Sciences, of the University of Oviedo/Uviéu, has an area of over 18,000 square metres in the City of Culture metros for installations, classrooms and offices. Among other studies, the Degrees in Business Sciences, Tourism, Management, Public Administration and Social Work and the Degrees in Commerce and Marketing are taught here.
Almost 1,500 youngsters study in this university centre. To these should be added the students from the University College for Social Work, also located in this space of La Laboral.
Offices of the Principality
The offices of the Principality of Asturias, in charge of managing equipment provisions of a cultural, tourism and sports nature in Asturias, among them La Laboral City of Culture, may be accessed by turning right at the Corinthian Patio.
