The Poor Clares were in charge of the Kitchens and Laundry that served the residents of the former Universidad Laboral until 1996. With its entrance through the Tower, the structure of this space has remained intact, with an imposing central fireplace and large windows that provide plenty of natural light.

Housed on the first floor of the Theatre, it is known for the frescoes by Enrique Segura which decorate its walls and are an allegorical interpretation of the history of the foundation of the Universidad Laboral, making this space a truly unique and solemn place. 

Imagen The Paraninfo The Paraninfo

Architects Manuel López-Mateos and Mari-Juana Ontañón designed the Paraninfo, shaped like the prow of a ship. This avant-garde facility is accessed via a unique spiral staircase from the Cafeteria. 
 

Imagen The Square The Square

150 metres long and 50 metres wide, paved with granite slabs, surrounded by arcades and with the church at the centre, it is the heart of La Laboral. Luis Moya's design was inspired mainly by St Mark's Square in Venice.

From an architectural standpoint, the imposing Iglesia de la Laboral is a work of singular interest with an elliptical floor measuring more than 800 square metres. The dome was modelled on the church of Hagia Sophia of Constantinople in Istanbul, modifying its design to create the largest elliptical dome in Europe.

Imagen The Tower The Tower

This may be the most characteristic building in La Laboral, and the most recognisable feature of the Ciudad de la Cultura. The Mirador is approximately 130 metres high on the 17th floor, affording a fantastic view of the complex and the surrounding landscape.

Imagen La Laboral Theatre La Laboral Theatre

Originally conceived as a large assembly hall of the former Universidad Laboral, the venue has become the first autonomously-owned theatre in the region and one of the best in northern Spain in terms of space, capacity and technology. The Teatro de la Laboral has more than 1,300 seats in the main hall, boxes and amphitheatre, as well as rehearsal, meeting and conference rooms.

Imagen Gardens Gardens

A 12,578 square-metre area where visitors can stroll and rest. The gardens were renovated to recover the initial idea for which they were originally designed by Javier de Winthuyssen, with two rows of Andalusian-style channels. The renovation project, designed by architect Alfonso Toribio Gutiérrez and landscape designer José Valdeón, made it possible to recover the water from the canals with a hydraulic system designed to take full advantage of this resource.
